Homemade onion rings are worth the (little extra) effort.
To celebrate our Prime Rib blend now being available in Costco Midwest (for a limited time), Chef Ryan shakes this versatile blend into the batter and never looks back.
Never used our Prime Rib blend? It really should be called “Not-Just-Prime-Rib” because of just how versatile this steak seasoning can be. With smoked paprika, garlic, onion, tomato powder, red bell pepper, and more – it adds a zesty, peppery kick to whatever you’re cooking.
Prime Rib Blend-Battered Onion Rings
- Prep Time: 10 minutes
- Cook Time: 5 minutes
- Total Time: 15 minutes
- Yield: 2–4 servings 1x
Ingredients
- 2 large yellow onions
- 2 Tbsp Spiceology Prime Rib blend
- 1 cup All-purpose flour
- 3 Tbsp cornstarch, divided
- 1 Tbsp baking powder
- Spiceology Salt Pepper Garlic blend
- 1 regular size can and a bit of your favorite beer
- Ice
- Canola Oil for frying
Instructions
- Slice onions into thick rings.
- Place rings into a large zip-lock bag and add 1 Tbsp of cornstarch, gently mix the bag so the cornstarch covers the onions but careful not to break them.
- For the batter, mix together the flour, 2 Tbsp corn starch, baking powder, Spiceology Salt Pepper Garlic and Spiceology Prime Rib seasoning. Add in your beer mixing as you go, you want the batter to be thick enough to coat the onions but not too thick to be clumpy.
- Heat your canola oil to 350°F.
- Place your cornstarch coated onion rings into your batter, submerging them completely and letting the excess fall off. Carefully place your rings into your hot oil and let fry for 2ish minutes per side or until golden in color.
- Place on a wire rack to cool, and seasoning with more Prime Rib once they come out.
Notes
*Pro tip, add ice into your batter to keep it cold, this helps your batter stay light and crisp when frying!
