Chef Isaac Toups

Meet The Chef

One hundred percent Cajun, born and braised, Chef Isaac Toups is a fan favorite… no really, he was voted fan favorite on Season 13 of Bravo’s Top Chef. This James Beard-nominated chef and owner of Toups’ Meatery is known for his updated sophisticated approach to Cajun cuisine and penchant for being photographed with his two-handed gumbo paddle.

With a culinary style inspired equally by his time in the fine-dining kitchen of Emeril Lagasse and time spent at his grandmother’s kitchen table, Chef Isaac is delivering his unique take on Cajun cuisine to your family table.

Excerpts from Chef Isaac Toups' Cookbook “Chasing the Gator”

Sometimes I wonder how far my cooking gets away from old school Cajun. Is it too far? I say no. “Cajun” is a lifestyle, it’s a mindset, it’s an area, and it’s a people.

Chasing the Gator isn’t about cooking alligator tails. It’s a metaphor for how I got to where I wound up, and it’s about where I’m going. It’s about leaving home, remembering where I come from, and using the dual influences of my Cajun upbringing to make my own food today. From a baby cook to a chef with my own restaurants, I’ve always chased flavor. And I’ve caught a few of my personal flavor gators. But I’m still searching. I’m always looking for more, for better.

That’s how I cook, and that’s how I live.

Go on, keep chasing that gator Chef.
