Blend Breakdown

“An awesome aromatic flavor profile.”

Hear from Chef Aaron as he talks Za’atar’s ingredients, flavors, and application and recipe ideas.

What Is Za’atar Spice?

Za’atar is the herb or a name of a blend of herbs from the Middle East. It is a traditional spice blend who’s use can be dated back to the 12th century. Some traditional ingredients in the blend are thyme, oregano, salt, sesame, sumac and cumin.

This popular spice can be used in a variety of ways, but one of the most notable is being baked into flatbreads. The pungent and exciting flavor profile compliments baked breads, offering a standalone eating experience due to the diverse profile that it offers. Za’atar can also be mixed into hummus, yogurts and oils to create dipping sauces and condiments on other dishes as well.

One of our favorite ways to utilize it is actually on fish or other seafood that we can grill. It compliments a wide range of proteins and veg and is a standout in our pantry due to this.
